Poker

Poker is often the game of choice for professionals because there are great strategies and many exciting variants. Poker is a card game in which each player bets individually and whoever has the most valuable rank and combination of cards – wins. Player’s hands are exposed throughout a round as they drop out of the game, resulting in the two strongest players remaining.

The game starts when one player makes a forced bet. From then on, each player in a clock-wise direction will make their own bets in which they must match the previous bet placed or fold. When a player folds, he/she decides to cut their losses and drop out of the round.  If the player can match the previous bet made by the player before him/her, this is called raising. Another option would be for the player to increase the bet – which could be a sign that this player has a strong hand and is confident or he could be bluffing. Bluffing is when a player tries to trick the other players into believing that he/she has a strong hand so that they fold, when perhaps the player actually has a weak hand.

The betting round will end when all players have folded except for one.

The first glimpse the world got of the game was in New Orleans in 1829. Players back then used a deck of 20 cards and four players used to bet on which hand they believed to be the strongest.
